Who’s your champion?
This morning as I was updating a few things on my website, I happened to be propped up in bed next to the man who cheered me on, tirelessly, in its reconstruction and completion. Like me, Shaun’s background is design, content development, and user-friendliness. While he was certainly a trusted pair of eyes for my design ideas, Shaun’s most appreciated support came in the form of cheerleading and accountability. He asked me daily what one little step I would take toward launching my new site.
As I scrolled through my site today, an emotional realization came over me—I really don’t know if I would have launched my new site if it wasn’t for Shaun. There were tearful moments when I wanted to throw in the towel. What’s the point? I have a perfectly good website. “Yes, you do,” he nudged, “but you aren’t using it. It’s doing nothing for you or your business.” And he was right. I needed a more functional website—one I could be proud of. Shaun cheered me on, pushed me when I needed a push, and he continues to celebrate its completion, and the boost to my business—and confidence—since its launch.
When we are approaching new challenges, considering new habits, or setting new goals, having a tireless cheerleader will always prove to be one of your most valuable assets. Be it a spouse or partner, a cherished friend, a trusted coworker, or a community, we all accomplish more when we have a confidante alongside us on our journey.
“Was it you or I who stumbled first? It does not matter. The one of us who finds the strength to get up first, must help the other.”
― The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration
Some of us have many people like this in our lives. Some of us struggle to name one. There have been times in my own life when it felt like I needed to ‘go it alone’—times when I felt too ashamed to admit I needed help, let alone ask for it. I still have moments like this, though I am gaining confidence and trust in my sweet circle of friends and family, and am embracing the gifts that come from allowing others to help, support, and be champions for me.
Who is your greatest cheerleader? Who are your champions? Who picks you up, dusts you off, and encourages you forward? Spend a few moments listing these people, and consider sending them a silent or handwritten thank you.
If you are unable to name somebody in this moment, write my name.
Let me know how I can be your champion.
