What is CAMP?
CAMP stands for Creative Awakenings, Mindfulness + Play—a creative community founded in Ottawa in 2020.
At its heart, CAMP is about creating accessible, low-pressure creative experiences that help people reconnect with themselves, and with each other. No art experience required. No performance pressure. Just making things with your hands in good company.
CAMP at Work brings that experience directly to your team.
Why CAMP at Work?
Canadian workplaces are under pressure. According to Mental Health Research Canada, nearly 39% of Canadian employees report feeling burnt out, and only 36% say their workplace offers real programs to address it.
Research points clearly to what actually helps: support from coworkers and managers has the strongest positive impact on employee mental health. And yet, employees without trusted workplace relationships are three times more likely to feel isolated, with mental health scores significantly lower than peers who connect more often. (Benefits Canada, 2025)
CAMP at Work sessions are designed to support exactly that—meaningful connection, visible team support, and a shared pause during periods of change or high demand. These sessions don’t replace time off, flexibility, or quality management. They complement them by providing your team with a structured, accessible way to reconnect and reset together.
What a CAMP at Work session looks like…
1 | ARRIVE + SETTLE
2 | GUIDED WARM-UP
Before anyone picks up a tool, Joanne leads a short settling exercise—something simple and sensory that helps people shift out of work-brain and into the present moment. This might be a breathing exercise, a mindful observation prompt, or a simple mark-making warm-up. No experience required. No wrong answers. The only goal is presence.
3 | CREATE + PLAY
This is the heart of the session. Each person works at their own station, guided by Joanne and supported by a shared prompt—free to take their project in whatever direction feels right. The medium can vary by session—watercolour, acrylic, collage, doodling, and more. Sessions may include a collaborative element, others may be entirely individual. Either way, everybody in the room experiences that quiet hum of people making things with their hands.
4 | SHARE + CLOSE
At the end, everyone is invited to share their creations. This moment reliably surprises people—same prompt, same materials, completely different results. Joanne closes with a brief reflection, and participants leave with something they made themselves, and a shared experience of connection.

What people say…
“Setting up the event couldn’t have been easier. Joanne’s communication and clarity were evident from the start. She planned exactly what we hoped for and executed it flawlessly. Employees unplugged, recharged, and genuinely enjoyed themselves. The activity was accessible for all skill levels, and our paintings now proudly sit on our desks. Joanne is a natural teacher, and everyone’s feedback was positive.” —Aleksandra Baykova, Boston Scientific, Ottawa
